Being An Artist Boss Babe

It's 2020. Time to take action on your dreams!

Do you have what it takes to be your own boss?

Rocking the Boss Babe aura for centuries.
When I started out, a wise friend asked me this question. My immediate answer was "Of course!" At the time, I got fired from my job with absolutely no idea what to do next. I only have the fearlessness of the uninitiated, the naivete of a proud young woman, and the conviction that I will succeed.

Fast forward 15+ years later, and after a lot of failures, I ask myself the same question: do I honestly think I have what it takes to be my own boss?

Now I answer with all humility, "Yes. I have what it takes to be my own boss. Also, now that I'm the boss of someone else, I can honestly say that I'm still learning how to be a better one everyday."

You can do anything

My friend, you can do anything you set your mind to. As an Artist Boss Babe, I can personally attest to that. I can also assure you that any goal or dream you commit to will require a lot of sacrifice. Especially if you're a woman.

When I set out to be a boss babe, I thought that THAT decision was all it took. No one told me that transitioning from an employee to self-employment to business owner (There's a difference!) means taking on a variety of roles all at the same time. I'm not just the boss. I'm my own Operations Manager, HR Head, Accounting Division, Marketing Department and Secretary rolled into one.

You can do anything because as a boss babe you will do everything. At the beginning, anyway. As a woman, you will also breakthrough a lot of stereotypes and cultural norms.

Personally, I've foregone getting married or even having children during my 20's. It was hard hearing from well meaning people about my body clock ticking away. I held on to the standards I've set for myself, though. I'm glad I did. Now I'm excited to start a family of my own in my late 30's instead of dreading the responsibility that comes with it. (I really wasn't ready for it in my 20's. LOL.)

Follow your dreams and everything else will fall into place... Right?

Of course, everything will fall into place- because YOU are going to make everything fall into its proper place.  When you decide to be a Boss Babe, life's circumstances will drain out all your positive self-belief and then take some more out of you.

Does it sound like I'm scaring you from taking the plunge? YES. You see, I've seen so many eager students and full time employees aspiring to have their own business one day; without really understanding the cost. When you just dabble in business hoping for an immediate ROI, you will burn through life savings and even friendships.

Owning and running a business is always a gamble. Being a Boss Babe means you're into your business 200%. If you're just interested in the ROI, then put your money in a safe investment. Don't go into business.

If you dream of becoming the head honcho of someone else's business, then it's the same kind of commitment. Anything worth dreaming about is worth fighting for.

Follow your dreams, sure. Just remember that it will cost you. Even now, I'm still prepared to face failure and start all over again if my businesses doesn't work out.

Living the Boss Babe Life

Being a Boss Babe is a calling. And like all vocations, there will be days when you'd rather have someone else do the heavy work- like being responsible for everyone in your company. ("Damsel-in-distress" moments. LOL.)

When those days hit me, I remind myself why I entered this unstable world of being a Boss. You can only stay an employee for so long. Change is inevitable. We grow old. We cut our hair.  We all change; but not everyone progress. Only a few brave souls evolve.

Living the Boss Babe life is its own reward. It means you're always in the process of accomplishing more. Being more. Making more.

So cheers to a Happy New You, my fellow Achievers. We can do this. We're Boss Babes after all.
